Delta Half Moon, Red, Grey and Blue, Male

How did you choose the name for your betta?

“Red” came from his colors and the Captain part was because it fit his big personality, and Cha Cha was the nickname of the teacher who gave him to me, Big Red is after the gum.

Is there a story behind your betta – when were you first united?

Yes. I first saw him in the classroom where I worked with students with learning disabilities, he was the class pet in a hexagonal 1-1.5 tank and the least fearful fish I’d ever seen. I’d kept fish for years but, due to a move, I hadn’t had a tank for a few years. And I’d never had a betta. The student’s mother who’d bought him for the class didn’t want him and the teacher already was taking home a different betta and had no room, so I adopted him.

What makes your betta special to you?

He’s got personality. When he isn’t resting, he’s very active and tends to investigate anything that happens. He swims over any time I get home or go near the tank (begging for food no doubt) and when something is added to his tank, he checks it out. Most fish I’ve had have been skittish and flighty – not Captain Red!

Is there anything else you would like to add about your betta?

He’s an awesome fish!
